#Diversign… or the Hummingbird’s share? Let me explain.
#Diversign, what’s that? An idea, photos, a concept, a community, a brand, actions?
Well… all six, sir!
I think this article is useful to make things clear for everyone. I have received quite a few questions that show a certain interest, but also a necessary explanation more detailed than the one given on the networks.
Everything came from an idea of my half who, once or twice, made me take the pose from behind, raising my arm and doing the « Ok » (The #Diversign, internationally known and used by divers from all over the world), in front of beautiful landscapes or beautiful monuments.
The pictures were really nice and, from one or two, we started to make one at each far trip, or in front of each place of nature holding our attention, provoking in passing some amused reactions, condescending, even a certain derision, including of our close relations (if we saw you!) judging us a minima « original ». As they say in Nice « M’em bati »!!
The first was taken in November, in Hong Kong, six months ago… barely six months ago!
From there, many discussions with family and friends, readings about the environment and the planet that is going badly, corals that bleach, oceans that fill with plastics, species that are becoming rare, climate change… I have also started to write articles on these subjects.
In short, we started to think about everything that is wrong, and everything that needs to change in our behaviour to hope to improve the situation at our small level. Just to not only unload on governments, which obviously have their part to play, but to say that we individually must also take charge of ourselves. Quite a concept!
Then came the desire to challenge, to inform, to raise awareness, to invite as many people as possible to reflect. A miscommunication, a desire to communicate? Yes no doubt…
Forming a community of people who would share the same idea, the same desire, would feel the same urgency, with a sign of rallying, visual, « #Diversign »…
With my husband and my son we then had the idea to transform these photos into a visual identity, so that the idea could be personalized, by creating a logo.
Then my « two men » Pascal, my son, and Jean-Michel who share my life, had the idea to register a trademark and create a company. His object? Have clothes made, first tee-shirts, then tank tops, sweatshirts, caps, products more specific to divers (the first spectators of the organized disaster that we humans print « below ») also, bands of masks, bandanas for women’s hair (in diving you never know what to do with your disgracious fringe!!)…
These products will soon be available in an online store. Part of the proceeds from sales will be used to finance actions implemented by associations in charge of environmental protection, more specifically actions relating to the protection of the oceans and their endangered species.
Ambitious? Unrealistic? Idealist? Naive! YES! YES! TES! AND YES!
So what? That reminds me of the hummingbird story, do you know it?
Very summarized here is the story from the hummingbird, taken from an Amerindian legend, told by Pierre Rabhi, its founder: One day, says the legend, there was a huge forest fire. All the terrified animals, appalled, watched helplessly the disaster. Only the small hummingbird was active, going to get some drops with his beak to throw them on the fire. After a while, the armadillo, annoyed by this derisory agitation, said to him: « Colibri! You’re not crazy? It is not with these drops of water that you will extinguish the fire! »
And the hummingbird said, « I know, but I’m doing my part. »
A nice story, more poetic version. of that famous quote by F. Roosevelt:
« It is hard to fail but it is worse never to have tried to succeed » said this famous man. That has always been my favourite maxim. She dictated my steps. It comes to me from my mother and I think I passed it on to my son with his taste for entrepreneurship.
Perhaps we will not be able to do this and the sale of the products will not even be able to cover the costs incurred. Never mind!
Or maybe one plus one, plus one, plus one… will make it happen. It’s a bet we make!
But without you and your relay… it will be difficult!
Will you do it with us?
But in fact you have already started!!
Yes, what a pleasure to see your first posts in the eponymous band (where we are already nearly 2500) published (De Mayotte, Bali, Senegal, Mauritius, Corsica, London, Italy, Spain, Israel, Thailand and the 4 corners of France!!)…
